Welcome to Tallahassee, the capital city of the state of Florida. Tallahassee is situated in the north-west of Florida, which is located on the east coast of the United States. The city became state capital in 1824, and today is an important centre of research and education in Florida. Tallahassee has a population of 190,000, and with two universities, has a large number of students and teaching staff.
GETTING TO TALLAHASSEE
Tallahassee Municipal Airport (TLH) is located 5 miles south-west of the city and welcomes limited domestic flights from, among other cities, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Orlando, Tampa and Miami. International students usually fly to Tallahassee via New York or Atlanta, and then connect to one of the larger airports in Florida. They can then either connect to Tallahassee from one of the previously mentioned airports, or by Greyhound bus or airport shuttle bus. There is no train station in the city, but the long distance bus terminal is located downtown.
GETTING AROUND TALLAHASSEE
Public transport in Tallahassee consists of a bus network. Buses run 6 days a week with services terminating about 7 or 8pm. Many areas of the city are walkable, however, many students who do not have access to a car, get around by bike. The city is also serviced by a number of well priced and reliable taxi fims.

There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Tallahassee. Popular areas include the Market District, located off Thomasville Road, and Midtown District. Both offer independent stores, fun boutiques and great restaurants. The city is also home to two large shopping malls; The Tallahassee Mall and Governor’s Square Mall.
