Welcome to New York City, also known as the "Big Apple". New York is situated on the east coast of America and has a population of more than 8 million, making it the most densely populated city in America. New York is one of the most iconic cities in the world, and is famous for Wall Street, Ellis Island and Yellow taxi cabs.
GETTING TO NEW YORK
New York is serviced by three major airports. JFK International Airport (JFK), located 12 miles south-east of the city and Newark International Airport (EWR) located 14 miles south-west of the city, have daily domestic and international flights. There are frequent bus and train services connecting both airports with New York City, or you can call one of the local taxi companies. (TIP: LaGuarda Airport (LGA), to the north of the city, handles domestic flights only.) If you are travelling by train or bus, Grand Central Station, Pennsylvania Station and The Port Authority Bus Terminal are located in the city centre.
GETTING AROUND NEW YORK
Public transport in New York City is excellent, reliable and varied. The entire city and surrounding suburbs are serviced by subway trains, overground trains, ferries and an extensive bus network. The New York City subway is open 24 hours a day and has more than 450 stations. All public transport tickets are inexpensive and there are a number of ticket options available. New York is also regarded as the most walkable and cycle-friendly city in America, so many students walk or cycle.

THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK
New York is one of the most visited cities in the world with a diversity of attractions. Spend a few hours at the Bronx Zoo, the Museum of Modern Art or visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Enjoy the view of the whole city from the Empire State Building, or enjoy a show at one of New York's many theatres on Broadway. If you are a sports fan, there is 'NBA' basketball at Madison Square Garden, and 'MLB' baseball at Yankee Stadium, and for the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle in Central Park. For a more relaxing experience, we highly recommend taking a Ferry trip, or see more of the city on a New York City Bus Tour.
SHOPPING IN NEW YORK
New York is world renowned for excellent shopping and has a shopping hub in every district of the city. Popular areas for high street shopping include Broadway, Fith Avenue and Union Square. For more exclusive shops, visit Madison Avenue, SoHo and Nolita. New York is also famous for its prestigious department stores including Bloomingdale's, Henri Bendel and Macy's. New York is home to a number of fun and exciting street markets, including the Noho Market.
