Welcome to the famous walled city of York. York is located in north Yorkshire and is one the largest cities in Yorkshire with a population of more than 200,000. The city lies on the River Ouse and has a long and rich history, and was founded by the Romans!
HOW TO GET TO YORK
York is located in the north of England and is easily accessible by air, ferry, bus and train. Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) is located 33 miles from York. There are daily domestic, European and some international flights. For those arriving by ferry, both Newcastle and Hull ports are within 2 hours travelling time to York. If you are arriving by train, York railway station is located in the heart of the city. Long distance buses also terminate outside the train station. (TIP: International students should also consider flying to London Heathrow (LHR) or Manchester Airport (MCR) and connect to York by bus or train.) If you need to call a taxi within York, we recommend calling Ebor Cars. They offer very reasonable fares to and from all of the airports mentioned above.
GETTING AROUND YORK
York is a compact city making it one of the easiest cities in the UK to get around. Public transport is very good and consists of an extensive bus network, which services the city centre and surrounding suburbs. Due to the compact nature of the city centre, many students walk or cycle. If you have luggage, shopping or are returning late at night, we recommend calling a taxi.
