Welcome to Stirling, one of the smaller university cities in Scotland, with a population of 34,000. Stirling Castle towers above the city and is only a few miles from the village of Bannockburn, site of the battle of Scotland's most famous victory over England in 1314!
HOW TO GET TO STIRLING
Stirling has no airport, so choose to fly to either Edinburgh Airport (EDI) or Glasgow Airport (GLA). There are daily domestic and international flights to and from both airports and both are located approximately 30 miles from Stirling. Complete the journey to Stirling from the centre of Glasgow or Edinburgh by bus or train. Stirling bus and train stations are located in the city centre.
GETTING AROUND STIRLING
The main form of public transport in Stirling is the bus service (First Group). Stirling University is located 2 miles from the city, and there are excellent bus links between the University and the city centre. Many students living in Stirling walk or cycle, however, if you are returning home late at night, we recommend one of the local taxi companies.

THINGS TO DO IN STIRLING
If you enjoy playing sports, Stirling University offers great facilities. Stirling Castle with its panoramic view over the city and the surrounding area is well worth visiting. There are several museums including the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, and we recommend spending a few hours at the Bannockburn Heritage Centre, which is situated on one of the most important historic sites in Scotland. For the more energetic take a run or a walk up to the Wallace Monument. Stirling has two cinemas in the city centre, and if you fancy a day-out, both Glasgow and Edinburgh are only 30 minutes from Stirling by bus or train.
SHOPPING IN STIRLING
Stirling has two shopping malls. You will find all of the big brand names in The Stirling Arcade and The Thistles Shopping Centre, both of which are located in the city centre. There are also plenty of smaller independent shops to choose from and you will find a number of outlets selling quality Scottish goods in the streets near the Castle.
