Welcome to Sheffield! Sheffield is situated in South Yorkshire in central England. The city has a population of over 500,000, making it one of the largest cities in England. The city is most famous for steel production, especially the manufacture of cutlery, and is home to the discovery of stainless steel. Sheffield is also well known for being one of the greenest cities in the UK.
GETTING TO SHEFFIELD
Sheffield does not have an airport, so the best option for international students flying to the UK, is to fly to London Heathrow (LHR) or Manchester Airport (MCR), and connect to Sheffield by bus or train. If you are travelling by bus or train, Meadowhall Interchange (bus, tram and train station) is located close to the city centre.
GETTING AROUND SHEFFIELD
Public transport in Sheffield is excellent. There is an extensive bus network which services the city centre and surrounding suburbs, and local trains connect Sheffield with all of the nearby towns. Stagecoach operates the Supertram tram systems with lines connecting the whole city, including both universities. All public transport options are inexpensive, however, many students walk or cycle.

THINGS TO DO IN SHEFFIELD
Sheffield has a number of attractions to keep you busy. Spend a few hours in the Fire & Police Museum or the Walker Art Gallery, visit Sheffield Cathedral, or enjoy a concert at the Motorpoint Arena. If you are a sports fan there is 'Championship football' at Hillsborough, 'League 1 football' at Bramall Lane, and ice hockey at iceSheffield. For the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle through the streets and parks of the city.
SHOPPING IN SHEFFIELD
Sheffield has a very good reputation shopping. The three main shopping areas in the city centre are Orchard Square, Fargate and The Moor. All three areas are within walking distance of each other and they offer shoppers a mixture of high street brand names, department stores and independent shops. The Meadowhall Shopping Centre is a real shoppers' paradise, and for more exclusive stores visit Ecclesall Road.
