Oxford is situated in central southern England, approximately 50 miles north-west of London. The city has a population of 150,000, and is one of the most prestigious academic cities in the world! The University of Oxford is the oldest English-speaking university in existence, with evidence of 'teaching' stretching back to the 11th century. The city is the setting for the famous fictional detective, 'Inspector Morse', which is a highly acclaimed BritishTV production, first broadcast in the 1980's and 90's.

HOW TO GET TO OXFORD
As Oxford Airport is very small, international students will have better options flying into either Heathrow Airport (LHR) or Gatwick Airport (LGW). Both airports welcome daily domestic, European and International flights, with regular bus services connecting both airports with the centre of Oxford. If you are travelling as a small group, you may also consider booking one of the local taxi companies. If you are connecting with Oxford by bus or train, Gloucester Green Coach Station and Oxford train station are located in the city centre. Numerous buses and trains run to and from London and Birmingham.

GETTING AROUND OXFORD
Public transport in Oxford and the surrounding area consists of a fairly extensive bus network. The main providers are Stagecoach and the Oxford Bus Company. If you have luggage, shopping or are returning home late at night, we recommend calling one of the local taxi companies. The city is very cycle-friendly, with many cycle lanes provided. Most students walk or cycle.

THINGS TO DO IN OXFORD
Oxford is one of the most visited cities in England and has plenty to see and do. The city has a number of interesting museums including, the Oxford Museum, the Museum of the History of Science and the Pitt Rivers Museum. Enjoy a musical performance at the Holywell Music Room or the Sheldonian Theatre, and we highly recommend visiting one of Oxford University's 39 colleges! If you are a sports fan, there is 'League Two' football at the Kassam Stadium, and for the more energetic, soak up the city's atmosphere with a run or a cycle through the streets or along Oxford Canal. We highly recommend taking the Oxford Bus Tour to see and enjoy the whole city.
