Loughborough is situated in the East Midlands, in the heart of England, approximately 10 miles north of Leicester. The town has a population of almost 70,000, and is home to the world's largest 'bell' foundry and the prestigeous University of Loughborough. An interesting fact is that Loughborough was the destination of the first-ever one-day travel excursion, arranged by Thomas Cook in 1841!
GETTING TO LOUGHBOROUGH
Loughborough is serviced by East Midlands Airport (EMA), which is located 10 miles north of the town centre, welcoming daily domestic and European flights. If you are travelling by bus or train, buses conveniently arrive at and depart from the town centre, and you will find Loughborough railway station in the town centre too. Many students from Europe choose to travel to London on the Eurostar service, and onwards to Loughborough by bus or train. (TIP: Another option for international students is to fly to London Heathrow (LNH) or Birmingham Airport (BIR), and connect to Loughborough by bus or train).
GETTING AROUND LOUGHBOROUGH
Public transport in Loughborough consists of a bus network, which services the town centre, university and surrounding suburbs. Local trains connect with nearby towns and destinations further afield. Bus fares are reasonably priced, however, many students choose to walk or cycle to university, and within the town.

GOING OUT IN LOUGHBOROUGH
With so many students in Loughborough, it is no surprise that the town has a lively social scene. We highly recommend trying the Phantom, which is a student-themed bar, where you can watch live sport, eat great pub grub, have a few drinks, and enjoy a variety of entertainment.
THINGS TO DO IN LOUGHBOROUGH
Loughborough has plenty of attractions to keep you busy. Visit the Carillon Tower and War Memorial or spend few hours at the Charnwood Museum. Although Loughborough has some of the best sports facilities in the country, there are no professional sports teams, however, in nearby Leicester, there is 'Championship' football at the King Power Stadium, 'Aviva Premiership' rugby at Welford Road, and horse racing at Leicester Racecourse. The city also offers plenty of parks where you can go for a run or a walk and enjoy the fresh air!
SHOPPING IN LOUGHBOROUGH
The majority of shopping in Loughborough is located in the town centre. Popular streets include Market Street, Market Place, The Rushes and Swan Street. All of these are within walking distance of each other, and they offer shoppers a mixture of big brand names, department stores and independent shops. If you prefer shopping 'under one roof', try either The Rushes Shopping Centre or Carillon Court. If you fancy something a little more traditional, try the Loughborough Market, which is held every Thursday & Saturday.
