Welcome to Bristol, famous for the nearby Clifton Suspension Bridge! Bristol is situated in the south-west of England, 10 miles from the coast, and is built around the River Avon. With a population of more than 700,000, Bristol is the sixth largest city in England, and with a wealth of history and culture, it is a very popular place for international students to study abroad.

GETTING TO BRISTOL
Bristol Airport (BRS) is only 8 miles south of the city centre and there are daily domestic and European flights. There is a regular bus service connecting the airport with the city centre, or you can call one of the local taxi companies. We recommend Bristol Parkway Taxis. If you are travelling by bus or train, both Bristol Bus Staion and Bristol Temple Meads Train Station are located in the city centre. Bristol Parkway Train Station is located 7 miles north of the city centre. (TIP:  For international students, another option is to fly to London Heathrow (LHR) and connect to Bristol by bus or train.)

GETTING AROUND BRISTOL
Bristol's public transport consists primarily of a bus network. The main provider is First Group, and buses operate within the city and surrounding suburbs. Bristol is a compact city and traffic congestion is common, especially at peak times, so many students walk or cycle. In fact, in 2008, Bristol was named England's first 'cycling city'. If you are out late at night, we recommend calling a taxi.

THINGS TO DO IN BRISTOL
There is plenty to see and do in Bristol. Spend the day at the At-Bristol Science Centre or the Brunel's ss Great Britain (museum ship). If you are a sports fan, there is 'Championship football' at Ashton Gate, and 'Championship rugby' at the Memorial Ground. There are several cinemas, a bowling alley, theatres and concert venues, including the St Georges' Bristol and the Bristol Hippodrome. For the more energetic, there is plenty of scope for running and walking in one the city's many parks. We highly recommend taking a trip in a hot-air balloon to view the city and surrounding area.

SHOPPING IN BRISTOL
Bristol has excellent shopping. The main shopping area in the city centre is located around Broadmead. It is known as the Bristol Shopping Quarter, where you will find shopping malls, including the Cabot Circus, Quakers Friars and The Galleries. The streets surrounding Broadmead offer independent shops. Bristol is also home to a number of interesting and fun local street markets, including The St Nicholas Market, located just off the old Corn Exchange in the Old City.

STUDYING IN BRISTOL
Bristol is home to two universities and several colleges. The universities are, the University of Bristol and The University of the West of England. For information on studying at either of these, please visit the university section of the website.
