Welcome to Gothenburg, the largest port city in Scandinavia! Gothenburg is situated on the west coast of Sweden, with a population of more than 500,000, making it the second largest Swedish city. Gothenburg is a fascinating city, rich in culture and history, and in 2013 it was voted the most inventive city in the world by Forbes magazine, making it the perfect place to study!
GETTING TO GOTHENBURG
Gothenburg is serviced by two airports, the larger, Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT), is situated 12 miles east of the city centre. The majority of flights are from within Europe, and the airport has excellent bus shuttle links into the city centre. (TIP: For international students, another option is to fly to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ARN) and connect to Gothenburg by bus or train.) If you are travelling to Gothenburg by bus or train, both the Nils Ericson Terminal and Gothenburg Central Station are located in the city centre. Gothenburg Port has sea connections with Germany and the UK.
GETTING AROUND GOTHENBURG
Public Transport in Gothenburg is excellent and consists of a tram network, bus and train systems and ferry services. The tram is the most extensive and popular mode of transport with over 200 tram stops and 11 lines. All public transport modes are clean and reliable, and tickets are relatively inexpensive. Many students walk or cycle within the city.

THINGS TO DO IN GOTHENBURG
Gothenburg is one the most visited cities in Scandinavia and has a huge variety of attractions. Spend a day at the Volvo Museum, the National Museum of World Culture, or vist the Universeum or The Göteborg City Museum. If you are a sports fan, Gothenburg has three football teams and the local ice hockey and handball teams, are very popular. For the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle along the city's river banks and enjoy some of the famous landmarks including, The Viking Ship! For a more relaxing experience, why not enjoy a picnic or a walk in the Gothenburg Botanical Garden.
SHOPPING IN GOTHENBURG
Gothenburg offers shoppers a first-class and fun shopping experience. The Vallgraven part of the city centre is regarded as the main shopping area of Gothenburg and you will find everything here from small independent stores to international high street chains. If you prefer shopping under one roof, there are plenty of shopping malls including, the Nordstan shopping centre, which is the largest mall in Scandinavia. We recommend a visit to Magasinsgatan, to find Swedish products and something a little different from the mainstream outlets.
