Welcome to Madrid, the capital city of Spain. Madrid is situated in the heart of Spain and has a population of 3.5 million, and has the largest student population in the country. It is steeped in history and culture, making it a perfect place to study abroad.
GETTING TO MADRID
Madrid has three airports in total, with Barajas International Airport (MAD) being the main airport with daily domestic and international flights. Barajas Airport is 10km from the city centre and has frequent connections to and from Madrid via the Metro, bus, or you can call one of the local taxi companies. (TIP: Cuatro Vientos (MCV) and Torrejón de Ardoz (TOJ) Airports have limited domestic flights only.) If travelling by train or bus, Atocha Train Station is located in the city centre, and Méndez Alvaro Bus Station and ChamartinTrain Station are just a short metro journey from the city centre.
GETTING AROUND MADRID
Public transport in Madrid is excellent. The EMT Urban buses operate within the city, and the Metro network, with over 300 stations, services most of the city including the suburbs. Tickets are inexpensive and there is a range of ticket options available. Many students walk or cycle.
STAYING IN MADRID
Madrid is one of the most visited cities in Spain, and for short term accommodation, use one of the city's quality hostels. THINGS TO DO IN MADRID
Madrid is one of the most visited cities in Spain with a diversity of attractions. Spend a few hours in the Museo del Prado, or the Museo Nacional de Antropología, visit the Madrid Zoo, or the Aquarium, or enjoy a show at the Teatro Real. If you are a sports fan, there is 'La Liga' football at the Bernabéu, and the Estadio Vicente Calderón, and for the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle through the streets and parks of the city to see some of the famous landmarks, including Palacio Real and the Catedral De La Almudena. For a more relaxing experience, we highly recommend taking the Madrid Bus Tour.
SHOPPING IN MADRID
There is a shopping centre in every district of Madrid. You will find El Corte Inglés and the FNAC shopping centres in the metro Sol and Callao areas of the city. There are many independent shops on Gran Via and Fuencarral Street, where the Fuencarral Market is also located. (TIP: Fuencarral Street is located close to Tribunal metro station and not Fuencarral metro station) For more exclusive shops visit the Goya and Serrano areas of Madrid

Madrid is home to several universities and business schools. The main universities are, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
