Welcome to the Andalucian city of Granada! Granada has a population of 250,000, and is situated 40 miles from the Mediterranean coast in the south of Spain. The city is rich in Moorish history and culture, and enjoys a fantastic climate with sunshine all-year-round. The city lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains - the perfect place to study abroad!
GETTING TO GRANADA
Granada Airport (GRX) is only 10 miles from the city centre, with limited domestic and European flights. There is a regular bus service from the airport into the city, or you can call one of the local taxi companies. If you are arriving by bus or train, Carretera de Jaén Bus Station is located 3km north-west of the the city centre, while Granada Train Station is located in the city centre and has good connections with most of the major cities in Spain. (TIP: For international students, a more realistic option is to fly to either Barajas International Airport (MAD) or Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) and connect to Granada by bus or train.)
GETTING AROUND GRANADA
Granada is a compact city, and where possible you should aim to walk or cycle. However, the city does operate a bus service, which is ideal to get 'up and down' some of the city's hills! Tickets are inexpensive and both services are clean and reliable. Another transport option, which is popular with students, is to hire a scooter.

THINGS TO DO IN GRANADA
Granada has plenty of attractions to keep you busy. Spend a few hours at the Archaeological Museum of Granada or the Alhambra of Granada, visit the Cathedral or the Palace of Charles V. If you are a sports fan, there is 'La Liga' football at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes, basketball at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada, and for the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle up and down the streets and hills of the city. We highly recommend trying your hand at Flamenco dancing in one of the city's many bars and restaurants. During the winter why not take advantage of the opportunity to ski in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
SHOPPING IN GRANADA
Granada has a fantastic variety of shopping on offer to satisfy all tastes. The most popular shopping area is located within the historic centre of the city, near the Cathedral. In the surrounding streets you will find a great mix of traditional souvenir stores and independent shops. Granada has a branch of El Corté Inglés, the well-known Spanish department store, and another highlight is the extensive Centro Comercial Neptuno shopping mall. For trendy stores that appeal to young people you will need to go to the south-west of the city, and for more traditional shopping, try the streets surrounding the Old Quarter.
