Welcome to Toulouse, the home of avaiation in Europe! Toulouse is situated on the banks of the River Garonne in south-west France and is one of the largest cities in the country with nearly 500,000 people. For the past 20 years Toulouse has been at the centre of the aviation and spaceflight industry. The city also has a proud rugby tradition..... European champions a record four times!
GETTING TO TOULOUSE
Toulouse Airport (TLS) is only 4 miles west of the city centre, with daily domestic and some European flights. There is a regular bus service from the airport into the city centre, or if you prefer, you can call one of the local taxi companies. If you are travelling by train, Gare de Toulouse-Matabiau is located in the centre of the city. (TIP: another option for international students is to fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and connect with Toulouse by train).
GETTING AROUND TOULOUSE
Public transport in Toulouse consists of an extensive bus network and a fantastic state-of-the-art metro system. The metro has two lines and is automatic. Tickets are inexpensive and both services are clean and reliable. Toulouse also operates the VéloToulouse bike service, which is a bike hire system with hundreds of bike stations throughout the city. Many students walk or cycle.

GOING OUT IN TOULOUSE
If you are going out socialising in Toulouse, we recommend trying either The George and Dragon or The London Town pub. Both pubs serve good food, offer live entertainment and show live sport.
THINGS TO DO IN TOULOUSE
There is plenty to see and do in Toulouse. A great day-out can be spent at the Cité de l'espace (a theme park about space), visit the Muséum de Toulouse, or enjoy a show at the Théâtre du Capitole. If you are a sports fan, there is 'Ligue 1 football' at the Stadium Municipal, 'Top 14 rugby' at the Stade Ernest-Wallon, and handball at the Palais des Sports. Toulouse has numerous cinemas and theatres, while for the more energetic, why not cycle along the Garonne canal. For a more relaxing experience, we highly recommend enjoying a stroll or a picnic in the Jardin des Plantes.
SHOPPING IN TOULOUSE
Toulouse boasts a diverse shopping experience with every district of the city offering something different. The main shopping street for chains and department stores is rue Saint Rome. For more exclusive stores, visit rue de la Pomme, and if you are looking for interesting fashion ideas, try rue du Taur. Toulouse also has a large number of interesting and fun street markets, including the Capitole Market held every Wednesday and the Victor Hugo Market, which is the largest food market in the region!

Toulouse has the third largest student population in France and is home to several top universities and colleges.
