Welcome to Montpellier, a real gem in the South of France! Montpellier is home to more than 250,000 people, and has a huge student population. It is the perfect place for anyone wanting to study abroad with sun, sea and student-friendly surroundings. Whether you are here for a short visit, or a longer stay, you are sure to have a great time!

GETTING TO MONTPELLIER
Montpellier Airport (MPL) is only 4 miles from the city centre with domestic and some European flights most days. There is a regular bus service from the airport into the city centre, or if you prefer, you can call one of the local taxi companies. St Roch Train Station is in the centre of the city, if you arrive by train. (TIP: another option is to fly to Nimes Airport (FNI) and connect to Montpellier by bus or train).

GETTING AROUND MONTPELLIER
Public transport in Montpellier (TIP: known as TAM) is excellent, with a bus system and a fantastic tram system (4 lines covering 56km). Tickets are inexpensive and both services are clean and reliable. Montpellier also has the Vélomagg bike service, which is a bike hire system with hundreds of bike stations throughout the city, and more than 100 miles of cycle tracks. Many students walk or cycle.

GOING OUT IN MONTPELLIER
If you are going out socialising in Montpellier, we recommend trying either The Shakespeare or The Robin Hood pub. Both pubs serve good food, offer live entertainment and show live sport.

THINGS TO DO IN MONTPELLIER
There is plenty to see and do in Montpellier. A great day-out can be spent at the Mare Nostrum Aquarium, or the Henri de Lunaret Zoo. If you are a sports fan, there is 'Ligue 1 football' at the Stade de la Mosson, 'Top 14 rugby' at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir, and handball at the Arena Montpellier. Montpellier has a large cinema, numerous theatres, while for the more energetic, Palavas Beach is only a 12km cycle from the city centre. If you fancy going for a stroll, there are plenty of great walks, or why not enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine and 'people watch' in the Place de la Comédie.

SHOPPING IN MONTPELLIER
The Odysseum and Polygone shopping malls are located on opposite sides of Place de la Comédie in the city centre. Both offer all the big brand names under one roof. You will find a huge number of independent shops on 'Rue de la Loge' and the adjoining streets. Montpellier also has a number of interesting and fun local street markets.

STUDYING IN MONTPELLIER
