Welcome to Birmingham, the home of Cadbury's chocolate! Birmingham is situated in the West Midlands, in the heart of central England. It is the second largest city in the UK, with a population of more than 1 million, and with several top universities, is the perfect place to study abroad.

GETTING TO BIRMINGHAM
Birmingham Airport (BHX) is only 6 miles east of the city centre and there are daily domestic and international flights. There are regular bus and train services connecting the airport with the city centre, or you can call one of the local taxi companies. If you are travelling by bus or train, Birmingham Coach Station and all three of Birmingham's train stations (New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill) are located close to the city centre. (TIP: Another option is to fly to West Midlands Airport (CVT) and connect to Birmingham by bus or train.)

GETTING AROUND BIRMINGHAM
Public transport in Birmingham is excellent. There are extensive bus, train and tram services operating within the city and surrounding suburbs. All public transport options are inexpensive, however, many students walk or cycle.

THINGS TO DO IN BIRMINGHAM
There is plenty to see and do in Birmingham. A great day out can be spent at The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery 
(TIP: free entry), or the Birmingham Sealife Centre. If you are a sports fan, there is 'Premier League football' at Villa Park, and athletics at the National Indoor Arena. There are several cinemas, theatres and concert venues, including the LG Arena and the Birmingham Hippodrome. For the more energetic, there is plenty of scope for running and walking in one the city's many parks. 

SHOPPING IN BIRMINGHAM
Birmingham has great shopping. The main shopping areas are located on New Street, Corporation Street and High Street. There are several shopping malls, including the Bullring shopping centre, The Mailbox and The Great Western Arcade. Birmingham is also home to a number of interesting and fun local street markets, including The New Street Farmers' Market. 

STUDYING IN BIRMINGHAM
